In the Wakefield metropolitan borough, West Yorkshire is Castleford. The suburbs of Cutsyke, Airedale, Fryston Village, Ferry Fryston, Half Acres, Glasshoughton, Lock Lane, Hightown, Whitwood and Wheldale are within Castleford Borough. In Castleford, Queen's Park provides evidence of Roundhouses used by Anglo Saxons. Alongside clubs such as Doncaster Rovers, Scunthorpe United, Chesterfield, Leeds United (for 1919-20 season), Halifax Town, Mansfield Town and Lincoln City, Castleford Town played in the Midland League in the 1920s. Castleford Tigers, local team, was formed in 1926, when the league format in 1996 was introduced, Castleford was one of the Super League's twelve founder members. Weekly newspaper called Pontefract and Castleford Express is the local newspaper.

New plant will be a combination of Castleford and Cross Hills plants, but, though Burberry insist it will go ahead, the Brexit vote has stalled the decision. Giving evidence to this theory, Roman funeral urns have been found in modern-day Castleford. Oliver Cromwell's encampment in nearby Ferrybridge and Knottingley (thought itself to be in Castleford) whilst his forces to Pontefract Castle laid siege includes the history of the area. On Wakefield College's Castleford Campus in Glasshoughton, the town has a college of further and higher education.
