    Alongside clubs such as Doncaster Rovers, Scunthorpe United, Chesterfield, Leeds United (for 1919-20 season), Halifax Town, Mansfield Town and Lincoln City, Castleford Town played in the Midland League in the 1920s. Castleford Tigers, local team, was formed in 1926, when the league format in 1996 was introduced, Castleford was one of the Super League's twelve founder members. Weekly newspaper called Pontefract and Castleford Express is the local newspaper.
